The grains are small, with a thick pericarp and vary in shape from round to oblong. When the grain is heated, it bursts and the endosperm comes out. Our popping corn is a short plant with weak stems and early maturity. The plant produces more than two small ears, in some cases up to six, but with low yield in weight, although not in number of grains.
